Seaward Properties are delighted to announce that building works are set to begin on their multi-million pound redevelopment project at Eastgate Square, in the heart of Chichester's restaurant district. Councillor Cherry, Portfolio Holder for Resources at Chichester District Council said:
"The District Council does not have a large city centre land holding and therefore we are delighted when rare opportunities like this arise to improve our beautiful city. In addition, the Council is using some of the money it has received to further support vital community facilities at the New Park Centre and the Youth Information shop."
Years of thorough planning and in-depth negotiations with Chichester District Council have ensured that the new buildings will not only blend in to the Chichester townscape but positively enhance it, and, as an established local developer with over 30 years experience in the region Seaward are well placed to achieve this end. David West, Seaward's Managing Director said:
"We have worked long and hard to ensure that this development will result in a terrific improvement to the Eastgate area and have already received a tremendous amount of interest from both the general public and potential businesses, who would like to locate here."
This much anticipated mixed-use scheme will transform what was previously a tired area of the city and provide a range of elegant homes consisting of 53 one and two bedroom apartments and 19 four and five bedroom town houses. In addition there will be a number of apartments offered under the affordable housing scheme, available through Hyde Martlet. Mark Coates, Assistant Director New Business of Hyde Martlet commented:

The commercial and retail premises, totalling approximately 11,000 sq/ft, will add a further dimension to the development, and tenants for these units will be specially sought to complement and benefit the residents.
As well as the new homes and commercial additions to Eastgate, Seaward will lease a Youth Information Centre and a 100 space public car-park to Chichester District Council. Chichester's well-loved art-house cinema, the New Park Centre will also benefit from a refurbishment and extension, part paid for by the Chichester District Council, funded by the sale of the land. Other existing businesses in the area will benefit from the influx of people and the enhancement works to the road and pavement at Eastgate will add further improvements.
Demolition of numerous buildings which formerly stood on the site, including the former swimming baths, has been completed. Contractors Leadbitter have now been appointed and initial ground works are already underway. David Cook, Regional Director of Leadbitter, said:
"Leadbitter is delighted to be involved in this exciting project. The scheme, a £10 million-plus investment, will positively enhance the appearance of historic Chichester. The development is a careful blend of elegant housing, which will provide much needed affordable as well as open sales homes, and retail space."
